Guru Harkrishan Institute of Sikh Studies (GHISS) is a Tax-Exempt Non-Profit Organization registered in the State of Maryland, USA since 1995. This year marks the 25th Anniversary of GHISS (plus 2 pandemic years!).

Guru Harkrishan Institute of Sikh Studies (GHISS) has been making efforts from the past 25 (+2 pandemic) years of it's existence to expose the new Sikh generations of the western world to the principles and values of Sikhism. To achieve this goal, GHISS has conducted a number of camps, retreats, workshops, seminars, etc. in the Washington DC Metropolitan Area and other States as well. The Annual Sikh Youth Gurmat Camp, the year-round Gurmat and Punjabi Studies Program, and the Annual Sikh Adult Gurmat Retreat play a major role in this endeavor.

The Gurmat and Punjabi Studies Program was first initiated in the Spring of 1995 and has been held at various different locations including Recreation Centers of the Maryland Parks and Planning Commission and various Gurdwara facilities. GHISS has conducted 50 Semesters so far in which more than 900 unique kids have received Gurmat and Punjabi education.

The Annual Sikh Youth Gurmat Camp is an attempt to create a Sikh environment and provide a glimpse of the Sikh way of life during the week that the youth spend at the camp. The camp is ideal for those who have chosen Sikhism to be their path of life and are now desirous to learn more about this path and to understand the Guru's teachings and principles through practice. To help our youth identify their roots, Sikh History has also been kept an important focus of the camp. Other activities include organized seminars, discussions, sports, and various competitions.

GHISS has also supported various other like-minded Organizations in their various projects.
